Make a Holiday craft @ the Library!

Come out of the cold and into the library on Saturday. The children's department is featuring "Holiday Handicrafts" as a fun way for kids and their families to make a winter or holiday craft.
Supplies will be out from 9am until 4:30pm.
We provide the paper, glue and scissors, you provide the imagination!

This Satuday, December 4th, opens our Handicraft Stations. We will continue the fun each Saturday in December - December 4, 11 & 18.

Book clubs, book clubs, book clubs!

Book Clubs for Every Age!

Fall is here, and so is our line-up of children's book clubs. If one of our clubs—see our list, below— would be of interest to your child, just stop by the children's reference desk to pick up the latest selection (on a first-come, first-served basis).

BOOK BUDDIES (for kids in K-grade 1). This club is for emerging readers.
Participants will read a monthly book selection independently or with help.
Meetings include book discussion, games and activities. Our meetings for the
fall 2010 (October-December) season will be held on the third Monday of the
month in the evening, and on the third Wednesday of the month in the
afternoon. Families must commit to either the afternoon or the evening
session for the entire season.

Meeting Schedule:

Mondays: October 18, November 15, and December 20, 2010 at 6:30PM

Wednesdays: October 20, November 17, December 22, 2010 at 4 PM


KIDS' ADVENTURE BOOK CLUB (for kids in grades 2 and 3). This club is for
independent readers. Kids will read a high-interest adventure title each
month and, at meetings, participate in lively book discussion and
activities. Occasionally, special guests will visit our group. Our meetings
for the fall 2010 season (October-December) will be held on the first
Wednesday evening of the month at 7PM.

Meeting Schedule:
Wednesdays: October 6, November 3, December 1, 2010 at 7PM


FOURTH GRADE FANATICS (for kids in grade 4). This club is for confident
readers who would like to participate in fun book discussion and activities.
Our meetings for the fall 2010 season (October-December) will be held on the
first Monday evening of the month at 7PM

Battle of the Books 2010!

Battle of the Books 2010 wrapped up crowning two teams as the official winners (one for each grade) but congratulations go to everyone who participated for a job well done!

The 4th graders filled the room with six teams:

Hoover Reading Bees (winners),

Reading Chinchellas

The Foster Team

Markham Maniacs

The Page Turners

Rapid Readers

The 5th graders had five teams:

Robot Tacos (winners)

Book Busters

Purple Popcorn Eaters

Howe Honeybees

Spit & Swear Club

All of the teams did a great job submitting and answering questions. Over 600 questions were submitted for the battles - the most ever. We hope to see our 4th & 5th graders return next year as 5th & 6th graders and look forward to welcoming the graduating 3rd graders as 4th graders.

But let's not get ahead of ourselves! School hasn't even started!

We're rocking out the new Summer Storytimes @ the Mt. Lebanon Public Library. The summer session runs from June 21st through July 26th. Join us when you can. No registration is necessary.

Baby Time - Mondays, 10 & 11am. For children ages 6 months - 2 years with an adult.
Mother Goose - Thursdays, 10 & 11am.for children ages 2-3 with an adult.
Pre-School storytime - Tuesdays, 10:30am.For children ages 4-6 years.

Oh no, the lot is closed!

Some days both parking lots at the library are full and cars circle around to find a spot. It is usually because of a combination of an active library and an active Southminster church.
But this Wednesday and Thursday, May 12 & 13, the cars won't even be able to circle both lots!

The big lot that Southminster & the library share will be CLOSED on Wednesday & Thursday. The small lot in front of the library will be open with only access from Castle Shannon Blvd.
Parking is going to be tight so please make arrangements to walk, bike or carpool.
The library will be open as usual so please stop by to see us!

Calling 5 & 6-year olds for a fun library program!

The Mt. Lebanon Public Library is offering a new program that uses stories and hands-on activities to teach science and math concepts to children ages 5 & 6.
It will be fun!
2 sessions are available.

ABCs @ the library!

Come in to the Mt. Lebanon Public Library to check out our new program ABCs - Art, Books, & Crafts!
We'll share a quick story and art activity for children ages 3 - 8 and their families @ 6:30 p.m.

May 11th features "The Beckoning Cat" by Koko Nishizuka and the craft is making a folded cat.
